The following contains major spoilers for From Season 3, Episode 5, "The Light of Day," which debuted Oct. 20, 2024 on MGM+.
From Season 3 ventured out on a limb when Tabitha Matthews spent several episodes in the outside world -- a feat that seemed impossible. Yet what originally felt like a miracle slowly turned into a new nightmare, as Tabitha met Henry Kavanaugh and began to learn some new and frightening things surrounding his wife and son Victor. And her escape was sadly brief, as Tabitha and Henry wound up thrust back into the horrifying town.
CBR spoke to actors Catalina Sandino Moreno and Robert Joy about this surprising turn of events that started the MGM+ show's third season with a bang. They also discussed what it was like for Tabitha and Henry to enter (or in her case, re-enter) the town. Plus, what did they learn from working with each other?
CBR: Catalina, what was your reaction to the end of From Season 2, when you realized Tabitha had made it to the outside world -- and then knowing she was going to stay there in Season 3? Because she accomplished what every character has been trying to do.

Catalina Sandino Moreno: I was very excited. I was hoping that she was going to do more, as my character expresses. She hoped that she was going to do so many things outside, but I think it's a little bit of a mind game. She has seen so many things in town that when she's on the outside, she's like, am I really on the outside? Is this real? What is going on? The episodes that I am on the outside [are] just pure confusion, which, I don't blame her.
And then finding Henry, it's trying to make him believe that I'm not crazy and that he needs to help me, because he's the only link that I have on the outside. Her vibe is like, I need someone to help me go back to get my family. But I wish she could [have done] something. I wish she could have [sat] down and drink some cold Diet Coke, for example, or some stuff that you don't find in [the town]. But she was just so hectic and so confused that she didn't have the time to even breathe.
Robert, you're brand-new to the cast this season, but Henry provides a lot of valuable information to Tabitha about Victor's family. How much did From's creative team tell you, or how much did you try and learn before working on Season 3?

‘This Town Is Picking on Him!’: From’s Harold Perrineau Discusses Boyd’s Season 3 Fears
From star Harold Perrineau tells CBR about Boyd's feelings toward the town in Season 3 -- and the scene that gave him real-life nightmares.
Robert Joy: It is a crash course. I watched the 20 episodes that lead up to my introduction, so I knew about the world as an actor -- but I had to realize that, of course, Henry has no idea. When Tabitha starts trying to explain it, it sounds really unlikely. And then for him to find himself there is the new trauma. He went through a trauma when his family suddenly disappeared 40 years ago [or] whatever it was, and now he goes through this new trauma. It's like being born into a new world.
How much did they tell me? Pretty much nothing. I learned about it when I read the scripts for the first time. Typically, the Episode 1 and 2 scripts will come out, and so I knew that much. And then [Episode 3] and 4 come out and I said oh, okay, I end up in From town. But it's all a learning experience for the actor, as well as for the character.

How would you describe working with Scott McCord, who plays Victor? Because it takes several episodes for you to have any scenes together, but there's all this time beforehand talking about how complicated Victor and Henry's relationship is.
Joy: It was one of the things I felt most excited about, because Scott's performance in the first couple of seasons is extraordinary. The character is an unusual kind of a character, and the way he approached it was so beautiful. I was really looking forward to working with him and I certainly was not disappointed. Every time we do a scene together, it's one of the best experiences that you could have as an actor.
And I felt the same way working with Catalina. I'm coming in as a new person, and she comes into my life as a total stranger. And it's very moving and rich from the acting point of view, and from the story point of view. It's like the ultimate immigrant -- I don't know what to do. And at first I'm very suspicious and I don't believe it. I'm paranoid, and then the friendship or the understanding develops, just because both people have a part of their heart that needs to open to the other person.
And that heart opening happens through the whole group. Not everybody is as welcoming to Henry as Tabitha, but that's part of the richness and the pleasure of being in this season.

What was the acting experience like for you, Catalina? You're separated from all the people that you're used to working with, but then you get to reunite with them when Tabitha and Henry arrive back in town.

'Fans Will Be Surprised': From Star Ricky He Teases Kenny's Fallout in Season 3
Ricky He tells CBR how that From Season 3 death will drastically change Kenny - and what scene from the MGM+ show disturbed him the most.
Sandino Moreno: I love it. I think it's great. I think that's how you, as an actor, grow. If you stay with the same people, knowing their dynamics and knowing what they do, that doesn't make me grow. But if you encounter different kinds of actors and different kinds of stories, I think that's when you actually grow and learn.
I think that was a great thing, for me to leave town for a little bit. It was short-lived. I thought I was going to be out for a long time and come back [in the] last episode... but it was great and it was great to come back and see my family. It's just a good change of everything.
